Why You Should Spend the 3rd of July Watching Fireworks at Mount Rushmore

Are you worried that the pandemic lockdown will render your 4th of July celebrations dull and boring? Did you have a special trip planned, only to have it cancelled due to Covid-19 concerns? Well, you can wash those worries away with the summer rain! This year, you and your family can enjoy the beautiful fireworks at South Dakota’s iconic Mount Rushmore Memorial for the first time since 2009.

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial, an iconic landmark and one of the new wonders of the world, stands for hope, unity and freedom for the American people.  It is just 30 minutes away from Rapid City, often considered one of the most patriotic cities in the country.  Collaborating with the State of South Dakota, the National Parks Service is offering a unique opportunity for your Independence Day celebration at Mount Rushmore.
Are you wondering if this is the opportunity for you? Here are some of the main reasons you should spend the 3rd of July watching fireworks at Mount Rushmore:

CDC Recommendations are Being Followed

As the restrictions on the COVID-19 lockdown are finally being lifted, travel has also been deemed safe. The holiday event is being organized with full attention being given to CDC recommendations to ensure the safety of all, from park staff to attendees. Active efforts are being taken by the park management to guarantee participants a sanitary and safe visit. With this in mind, you can rest assured that the 3rd of July event will not only be fun, but safe for you and your family.

You Get to Explore So Much More

The Mount Rushmore Memorial is situated in one of the best locations in South Dakota. Aside from being located in the very heart of the beautiful Black Hills, it is in close proximity to other intriguing sites, such as:
Jewel Cave National Monument
Minuteman Missile National Historic Site
Devils Tower National Monument
The Badlands National Park
Wind Cave National Park

Just like the buffalo that wander our prairies, you have the opportunity to roam free, explore our scenic land and discover all the treasures that Western South Dakota has to offer. With deep roots in the very fabric of American history, the mystique of the Wild West appeals to old and young alike; you will find yourself fully immersed in the spirit of the likes of Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane.

Limited People Allowed

Although the 2020 Mount Rushmore fireworks event is the first in over ten years, the number of attendees is limited and requires participation via lottery tickets. For this, just sign up online – the fee is $1 for the ticket. However, each participant can only send in one entry. Moreover, each ticket allows a group of six or fewer people. On the day of the fireworks, the Mount Rushmore Memorial site will be closed to the general public. Only lottery ticket holders will be allowed entry, ensuring crowd control and making it easier for park management and staff to maintain and follow CDC Covid-19 recommendations.

The lotto to watch fireworks at Mount Rushmore opened on June 5, 2020 and closed on June 8, 2020. The winners of the lotto were announced on June 12, 2020. Were you one of the lucky winners? Even if you don’t win the lottery you can start planning for your South Dakota vacation today and enjoy a unique experience like never before.
