What to Look Forward to at the Days of 76 Museum

Unique Features, Artifacts, and Exhibits. The Days of 76 Museum honors the first prospectors, mineworkers, madams, and muleskinners who pioneered this mining camp into a Victorian city in 1876. It offers deep insight into the city's cultural heritage for any history buff who decides to visit Deadwood, SD.
It began as a make-shift repository for carriages, horse-drawn wagons, state coaches, memorabilia, and archives of the celebrations. In 1990, a collection of the Old Western and Native American firearms, artifacts, and archives were added. Finally, in 2004, a new 32000 square feet museum was constructed to house exhibitions, photographs, and artworks in addition to the artifacts.
The Days of 76 Museum includes a 7000 square foot exhibit named "Deadwood: A Story of Movement and Change." It displays the Old Western world's early transportation system, including more than 50 historic wagons, buggies, and carriages. These models are also used in the annual parade.
Another exhibit provides a creative representation of the city's infrastructure, detailing features from the Main Street and brick buildings, and even the elegant Victorian houses. You can visit Deadwood, SD, as it was in the early days. Vivid panoramic paintings and photographs of the Black Hills landscape adorn the museum. Even the Firearms Exhibit offers a look into the background of the best gun craftsmanship in Black Hill history, with a display of 100 long arm guns and 20 handguns.
